Fake Screenshots ^

Whilst trying to visualise the Sikher GUI, someone had an ingenius idea of making super realistic represenations of Sikher v1.0 using Microsoft Visio. Below are a number of screenshots that are highly realistic and of very high quality, please find the time to view them! However, please don't get mislead into thinking Sikher v1.0 has already been released because it hasn't, and don't get over excited at the GUI, because the actual Sikher v1.0 will look loads better! (Hint: Join us now and get an insider's view.) All the thumbnails below are enlargeable by clicking on them.

Results List View

Results List View

Here is the Results screenshot of List View after a search has been made. If a person does not want to see this view, then they may switch to the Document View, which I shall come to later. In List View the user has a number of options. They can view the whole hymn or page, view the result in a slideshow or even as an Akand Paath. The user may also copy any part of the result to clipboard, export it to pdf, (x)html, xml or even add it to a project. The user may also add the line to favourites for quick access. These are just a few of the array of features Sikher possesses.

Results Document View

Results Document View

The Results Document View is to allow a person to see the translation, transliteration and other details of a Gurbani line, like author, page number, line number and melody. It expands on the List View and helps give the overall picture of what results have been found. It's also very useful for printing off hymns and copying details to the clipboard. A final thing to note is that the Post Search Options in the Side Panel affect how the document is displayed, which again shall allow you to customise.

Slideshow Function

Slideshow

Slideshows are a way of viewing any type of data in small, visually appealing digests. So it's no surprise that we also wish to implement this function as an integral part of Sikher. Any search result found can be put into a slideshow directly or simply added to a project to view as a slideshow at a later date. You shall be able to use OpenOffice or Microsoft PowerPoint to view the slideshow in, or you can simply use the on board simplistic slideshow tools. Either way you'll be able to save and customize all slideshows to your heart's content.

Project Function

Project

The Project Funtion concept was decided upon very early on, when it was found that many applications allowed a person to search, but did not allow a person to save. Saving and customising your results is what Sikher is based around. Now, if for example, there is an event coming up (like a Rehn Sabhai) and you know the order in which hymns may be sung, then you can prepare a project and save it. Then when the time comes just load it and display the slideshow.

Akand Paath Function

Akand Paath

The Akand Paath function aids the user, not only in an actual Akand Paath but also can help a person who wishes to learn how to read Gurmukhi. The pace that the text scrolls at can be easily set and there are a number of features which shall allow a person to be able to navigate any text with ease. It is also worth noting that the Post Search Options in the Side Panel will affect how the Akand Paath is shown. Again this keeps the tradition of customisability (even a word?) of Sikher.

Akand Paath Fullscreen

Akand Paath Fullscreen

The fullscreen Akand Paath function makes sense logically because when an Akand Paath occurs, the hymns are required to be displayed continuously over a 48 hour period, and what better way to display it than fullscreen, for all to see! In fullscreen mode the user also has a taskbar at the top to control the rate of scroll and to navigate through a text more easily.

Real Screenshots ^

If these screenshots haven't appeased your hunger for screenshots, then fear not, I'm in the process of uploading more screenshots to Flickr. These will be actual screenshots of the real application in action. Click here to have a look now.
